Meet Thomas DeCastra
For most of my life I have felt called to public service. From my high school Eagle Scout project to community based service outreach and development through the University of Dayton where I worked with a nonprofit whose mission was to protect elders and those without guardianship. These experiences not only shaped my understanding of the power of community but taught me the importance of being engaged in it.
I went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Dayton and a master’s degree in legal studies from Cleveland State University. Since then I have had the privilege to work for small, medium and enterprise size organizations.
In 2020, my family and I became residents of Brunswick Hills Township. With the pandemic keeping us rather isolated, I used this time to make our house a home, build a vegetable garden and plant lots of seedlings from Medina County Soil and Water.
Then, in the fall of 2023, I was able to get involved in the community by becoming a member of the Zoning Commission. This gave me an opportunity to meet township residents and understand their concerns and needs from a zoning perspective. Through this experience, I quickly realized there was a need for improvement. That Brunswick Hills Township residents deserve proper community development, township government transparency and strong leadership. As a trustee, I look forward to implementing those improvements for the future for Brunswick Hills Township.
When I’m not participating in Township activities or at work, you can find me spending time with my wife, Sabrina, and deaf American Staffordshire Terrier, Sweets. We enjoy frequenting the local restaurants, the Medina Square, tending to our gardens, and spending time with friends.
